Old Office in Stockholm Gets Transformed Into a Scandinavian Home

An old 19th-century office in Stockholm was recently transformed into the most stunning and inspiring Scandinavian home by Note Design Studio. The interior design studio took the project on their hands and transformed what used to be an old apartment without bathrooms, a kitchen or any of those commodities into a marvelous wonderland where light colors and minimalist lighting designs get all the spotlights.

When working on the project, Note Design Studio made sure to keep traces of the old 19th-century splendor, such as worn timber floors, and ornaments in the form of stucco and carpentry, as well as three majestic tiled ovens. However, all the other elements were painted in thick layers of paint, whitewashed by modern spotlights in the ceilings, reinforcing the feeling of an impersonal office and an interior without a soul. “We noted the colors of the three tiled ovens – green, pink and a yellowish-white,” explain Note Design Studio.

Behind a wall that was torn down to access old piping, we found original 19th-century paint on a door frame, suddenly illuminating the entire white space with a powerful mustard yellow tint.” The designers added additional tones to the original color scale, acting as a bridge between the powerful original hues. They ended up with an 8-tone color palette that originated from the hidden traces of the old apartment.

When going for this renovation, both the designers and the client were hoping to preserve and make the most minimal intervention on the space, so as not to mess with the original features of the apartment. To make this happen in the best way possible, all the new built elements were placed in the gaps between the old ornaments.

Two new walls were added, designed to appear the same as the joinery – a veneered surface with diagonal lines, inspired by the most beautiful pattern in the apartment; an original parquet in one of the corner rooms.

A color palette based on the originally found shades, three expressive tiled ovens, decorations in the ceilings and carpentry, and the original parquet flooring pattern – these old traits and quirks were the clues Note Design Studio needed to take a drab old office space into a contemporary direction. The result of the interior design studio’s amazing work was a harmonious space filled with bright and rich colors, who make you want to stay and enjoy the home. Perfect for children, and all scandinavian lovers!
