A LED lighting tube that is also a piece of package

Have you ever considered using cardboard tubing to build a led lighting system? Well, the Dutch design duo Waarmakers did and they now bring us a totaly out of the box led lighting solution for our homes!

Designers Simon Akkaya and Maarten Heijltjes, founders of Waarmakers design studio, used a standard cardboard tubing to create a suspension lamp that can be essembleed from its own packing by the users.

The “R16” is a cardboard LED tube lighting fixture in which the packing turns into the lighting in a form of a LED luminary, producing the least amount of waste possible.

The idea apeard while developing another project involving tubular LED fixtures, the two designers were not confortable with the idea of having to throw out all those cardboard packings. And so, they started putting their minds to what could be done about it and they came up with this incredible product.

R16’s core is sustainability and that includes using as little material as possible. Waarmakers even opted to not include the elementes to fix the lamp in place, encouraging the users to add their own pencil or coin to do the job.

The minimalistic design allows this piece to fit into a variety of situations and environments.

Depending on the project in hands, users can apply different colors to the fixing materials, customizing the product according to the ongoing project.

The natural and neutral color of the cardboard can be combined with both soft and saturated color paletts.

All the users have the option to paint over the cardboad if desired! This way, they can make the lamp match with their overall decor.
