Hello fellas! Today I bring you an article that begins in the most southern city of New Zealand, Invercargill, the story of Electric Confetti, contemporary neon lights. Natalie Jarvis spent her childhood pottering around her Dad’s antique shop and that developed her the love for ‘old stuff’. After her degree in design and art history in NZ she went to Melbourne, Australia.
There, she discovered a new product called ‘LED neon flex’ and created a company called Electric Confetti! The best part of this business is ‘LED neon flex has all the brightness of the traditional stuff, but no mercury, low wattage, and is also safe for kids spaces as it can’t shatter!’ Natalie says.
It is possible to find pieces such as a bright yellow banana, created in collaboration with Kip & Co, and buy them online. ‘I love working closely with each client. I’ll ask them the style they’re drawn to, and produce concepts based on those conversations’ Natalie explains. ‘I either hand draw the lettering, or choose a typeface that will work, based on the client’s preferences and the constraints of neon when it’s hand made. We would never just pump out a concept in Lucida handwriting if the client requested a ‘script font’!
Being open for less than two years, Natalie believes she still starting. She has a ton of ideas in mind and a lot of collaborations to make! She says ‘I hope to keep challenging myself in the area of design, and the possibilities of this product. I also hope to not necessarily follow what’s ‘on trend’ right now, but bring people designs they didn’t know they needed!’.
Go take a look Electric Confetti’s website and be ready to spend a lot of time choosing!
That’s it for today folks!
