First of all, we need to talk about the designer himself. Marcel Wanders is an industrial product designer with his own studio in Amsterdam. Wanders studio designs for a number of internationally renowned labels including Cappellini, Chi ha paura…?, Moooi, Mandarina Duck, Flos, Boffi and Magis. He also collaborates in design projects and has been a juror for a number of prizes including the Rotterdam Design Prize and the Kho Liang Ie prize.
Marcel Wanders has also enjoyed teaching at a number of prestigious design academies in the Netherlands and he has lectured at the SFMoMA, Limn, the Design Academy.
Wanders currently has a number of designs in collections and exhibitions across the globe. His work is currently held by the Museum of Modern Art in New York and San Francisco, Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, Museum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam, Centraal Museum in Utrecht and the Museum of Decorative Arts Copenhagen.
At GoLights, we carry a range of high-quality replica Marcel Wanders lights.
Designed by Marcel Wanders for Flos as part of his cocoon range, the Zeppelin Pendant Lamp incorporates a number of light bulbs, and is covered in a shell made from cocoon resin. The result is a subtle and diffused light that can illuminate both large and small spaces.
The Zeppelin chandelier designed by Marcel Wanders for Flos is a lightweight chandelier that has an elastic, resin skin over a white powder coated steel frame. The result is something very eerily organic, like a hanging cocoon. A faceted crystal globe at the bottom provides a sparkle effect. This ghostly lighting would be a great addition to a modern space.
