The Mesmerizing Tom Dixon Showroom in Manhattan

America is said to be the “land of opportunity” for many and Tom Dixon has joined the group! The British designer has opened a permanent store in New York’s Soho neighbourhood believing that it’s time to give his brand the “american dream”.

The Shop, open since November 2015 at 243 Centre Street, has 1 000 square feet (93 square meters) aid is located at street level, a few blocks from showrooms of some of the leading design brands in NYC. Tom has run an office in New York for five yeas, but this shop is his first retail space in the city.

Dixon explained the store as “a service centre for professionals and consumers, where the complete catalogue of ‘extraordinary products for everyday use’ can be shown, explained, demonstrated and of course, purchased.” The showroom carries Dixon’s full collection, including classics like the Mirror Ball light and the Copper shade, along with some recent additions such as the Wingback range and the Melt pendants.

Besides the products, the store also provides interior design consultation for residential and commercial projects.

Recently, the American market for high-end design has been growing, according to European brands, who are restructuring their US businesses and opening showrooms to take advantage of the booming sales.

The store, that was designed by Dixon and his team, was projected to “be sympathetic to its surroundings”.
“We tried to keep as many original features as possible such as the tin ceiling,” said a company spokesperson. “We also did things like sandblasting the steel pillars and leaving them untreated in order to expose the raw architecture of the space.”
