The great thing about lighting design is how unconventional it can turn out to be. One day you’re seeing a plain suspension lamp, the next you’re looking at a new contemporary lightingdesign with a whole new twist. Today we’re exploring the more creative side of lighting design and the icosahedral shape…
The Monterrey, Mexico-based SHIFT presented their U32 – 1 design back in 2015 and two years later they’re back with a new geometric light that is much more than that. This time, SHIFT went with a design that’s more spherical in volume, thus creating the U34 lamp, for GrupoLite, which boasts an icosahedral structure with 20 sides.
Using equilateral triangular components, the lamp comes together easily by repeating the same size element for each face of the structure. That cuts down on production and assembly time when everything is identical. The nature of the design allows for it to be hung as a pendant or as a table lamp placed on one of its 20 sides.
U-34 comes both in white and black finishes and it’s the perfect contemporary lighting design to use in your home decor, whether that’s an industrial loft, or a scandinavian apartment.
