Chimaera is a fascinating vintage floor lampfrom the famous Italian brand Artemide. Even her name has a magic feel: in fact, a “chimaera” is a mythical thing that is hoped for but illusory or impossible to achieve.
Vico Magistretti, one of the most famous Italian designers of the past decade, designed this piece in 1969. At the time, the light was emitted by bulbs which have been substituted by LED sources once the product was put back in stock in 1999.
This mid-century floor lampappears as a luminous element with voluptuous curves that comes from the modelling of a sheet of plexiglass. It seems to have no formal restrictions, but actually is the result of a precise geometric study aiming to regulate the effects of light. Part of the Masters’ Pieces collection by Artemide, it is available in the original 180 cm high version or in the Mezzachimera adaptation.
