The Italian architects Alessandro Mattei and Caterina Naglieri of studio Plato Design created a collection of concrete and wood magnetic lamps named TWELVE. The lighting designs can be used individually or combined to make a larger sculptural lamp.
“At Plato Design things are invented, prototyped and handmade, merging clear design with technological innovation and unique “made in Italy” handicraft.”
The contemporary lighting fixtures collection includes both table and pendant lights with a twist: they are made from concrete or wood. The named comes after its dodecahedron shape, which was achieved by using a repetition of a polyhedral shape.
Each lighting design has magnets on the sides of each module that allow the lamp to connect to another lamp or to shelves, fridges or a magnetic surface. Other benefits of the magnets mean that once the lights are joined together, they can be rotated to direct the light in whichever direction is needed.
To create TWELVE concrete and beechwood are treated as plastic materials resulting in a ultra-thin shell. The result is an astonishing object with its essentiality, at the same time flexible and customizable, designed to meet changing needs.
