Let’s paint a picture: a northeast Paris street with its mix of picturesque houses, alternative bars, and 1970s public housing projects.
This was the location chosen by designer Philippe Starck to build his 172-room hotel, Mama Shelter Paris. Featuring such a cozy name, Mama Shelter is exactly what is sounds like: a familiar space where you feel at ease and comfortable to share your ideas with family and friends. It is a space built to celebrate design and be surrounded by some of the designer’s best ideas.
Each and every one of the 172 rooms mix exposed concrete walls, white bed linen, and graphic custom-made carpets, with fairground masks that double as lampshades (yes, Batman lampshades are an actual thing and we are obsessed!). They are also equipped with a microwave and multimedia iMac.
The lighting fixtures in the bedrooms are all signed by Philippe Stark, so that is one more reason for you to stay at Mama Shelter!
According to Mama Shelter Paris, “the restaurant proposes simple and homemade cuisine and also dishes created by Guy Savoy to share between friends around large tables.”
“At the huge island bar, the pizzeria or the terrace, you will surely cross paths with American poets, or Japanese painters.“
For the warmer days of Summer – and even those days in September – the rooftop is open for everyone to enjoy some of the most alternative Parisian views. It is a great opportunity to get to know a side of the city you might have never seen and be inspired to achieve the best in your next design.
What is so great about this incredible hotel in Paris is that – although it was conceived by one of the most acclaimed designers in the world – it is actually a great choice if you are traveling on a budget! What does this mean? It means you can travel less expensively without losing an opportunity to enjoy the best that the City of Lights has to offer!
